Design Wall - Melbourne Now 2023
In 2023, the National Gallery of Victoria invited Sussex to participate in the Melbourne Now Design Wall, a way for visitors to learn about Melbourne-made consumer products that are influencing the future of contemporary design and how we live.
The Design Wall is a six-metre high installation that presents 35 projects from 25 design companies, representing four themes: Change and Stability, Localities and Markets, Process and Proximity and Creative Currents.
Three products from our Calibre collection are on display. The wall basin outlet, twin rail shower and wall mixer were arranged en masse along a grid layout that sat beside other Melbourne-manufactured products. Their presentation speaks to our high level of craftsmanship and decades of working knowledge and expertise.
Finished in LUXPVD® Matt Opium Black and Pure Gold, the products showcase the company’s commitment to technological innovation. PVD, or physical vapor deposition, is a technique that creates a thin and durable coating that lasts longer than traditional methods.
These products also illustrate our commitment to sustainability. Calibre, like all Sussex lines at the end of production, the brass waste is recycled in our facility to be made into new tapware. The energy it takes to do this is carbon neutral, an achievement that we are very proud to have reached since 2021.
By reducing our emissions through solar panels and other energy efficient changes, we are also a recognised Climate Active organisation, a certification only received after a rigorous testing process. Alongside these internal initiatives, we also have a public take-back program for used tapware, reducing the waste that’s sent to the landfill.
We are delighted and honoured to be alongside 24 other Melbourne-based design companies that address the needs of the home, healthcare and daily life. Their collective ingenuity, passion and entrepreneurial spirit are an inspiration to us. Together, our products celebrate the powerful creativity that is coming from Melbourne and how this city has shaped who we are today.
