The Bonny House
Originally built in 1900 in the heritage precinct of Albert Park, the Bonny House is the home of its designer Ivy Huang. The home was completely dilapidated, requiring a complete rebuild. Ivy wanted a place that felt like a hug by bringing a sense of warmth, light, and comfort to every detail in the building.
By being intentional about the architectural elements and fixtures that bring curved shapes in the home, she encircled the interiors in softness and lightness – a warm embrace.
Portrait Gallery
Because curves are one of the major unifying elements that appear throughout the space, the elegant form is found immediately in the grand entry’s archways, which reflect the heritage facade. The shape is seen again in the master bedroom furniture, the kitchen’s stone island benchtop and rangehood and in the alfresco courtyard through the wood slat-seating that beautifully bends around the perimeter. But it’s also found in the smaller details, particularly with the choice to use Sussex Circa and Voda tapware.
Used throughout the double-storey home, the tapware serve as a connection to the design theme in spaces that did not need larger architectural forms. Our Circa line in Living Tumbled Brass is found in the master ensuite, laundry, power room and kitchen. The finish naturally patinas over time, adding personality and a rich accent to the brass details and muted greens of the home’s colour palette. The family bathroom on the first floor uses a combination of the Circa and Voda collections in the shower, tub and sink fixtures to complement the oval tub and the skylight that mirrors its shape above.
The use of Sussex products also tied in well with another priority of the design: sustainability. Materials and manufacturers were carefully chosen to provide the best energy and water efficiency. Sussex is locally manufactured, carbon neutral and uses infinitely recyclable brass. Our products have three-to-five star WELS-ratings, a perfect fit for a project like The Bonny House.
