Collis Street
As the prize of the 2021 Royal Melbourne Hospital lottery, the Collis Street home in Brighton East was designed to be comfortable and relaxing for any family. Builder Mazzei Homes, in collaboration with Webster Architecture, wanted light to play a large part in creating a calming home.
From the brickwork to the white custom aluminum battens spanning the top floor of the facade, the house uses sunlight to create dynamic experiences with the materials throughout the day. Because of the simple palette, it was up to the details to create interest and an elevated sense of comfort.
Our Scala and Milli Pure fixtures were chosen to complement the clean, bright styling of the bathrooms and kitchen. Finished in Matt White, these taps beautifully accent the marbled tiles and benchtops while their curved forms also create a point of visual interest in the rectilinear spaces.
Along with the drama of light on the front, east-facing facade, the sunshine was utilised in other ways. Because of the home’s elongated layout, the home receives much northern exposure over the course of the day through the 3m high ceilings and full-height windows. This positioning allows the interior details to react to the changing light, creating depth and adding to the home’s sense of relaxation.
