Royal Melbourne Hospital Lottery - Arnold Road House
The Arnold Road house in Brighton East is the grand prize for the 2023 Royal Melbourne Hospital lottery. Builder Mazzei Homes, Webster Architecture & Interiors and Nathan Burkett Landscape Design continue their successful collaboration with this year’s design, bringing the same impressive level of sophistication, luxury and comfort that they have brought in previous years.
This Bayside four-bedroom home design combines the expansive layout’s ample natural light with a classic, natural colour palette to bring a sense of comfort and warmth to its future tenants. Then, by being mindful of curved shapes in the choice of fixtures and furniture, the home gains moments of softness and solace. The use of curves in the Sussex Milli Pure and Scala lines finished in Brushed Nickel reinforce this thinking in the kitchen, ensuites and laundry by juxtaposing the surrounding boxy marble benchtops.
There is also the use of scale to bring more energy and flow to the home. The structure is positioned on a sloped site, which the designers took as an opportunity to use volume to highlight the main communal spaces while keeping the bedrooms in a more standard proportion to encourage a sense of coziness. Before entering the open kitchen area, the sunken lounge, with its warm terracotta walls and curved sofa, encourages conversation while looking out on part of the pool.
The kitchen space flows into the living and dining areas, where the ceilings increase from about three metres to a lofty six metres, allowing for sunlight and views of the garden. The grandeur of the space becomes the perfect backdrop for the grand marble island bench in the kitchen and blends perfectly into the alfresco dining right outside the full-height glass doors.
The wraparound pool and thoughtful landsaping work with the home to feel like an extension of it. Upstairs are the three bedrooms, each with its own colour palette and ensuite bathroom. There is also a multipurpose rumpus room that has enough space for both work and play.
